For quality osteopathic care, Symmetree Osteopathy serves the residents of Lower Plenty.

Neck pain, stiffness, or discomfort affecting you? Our Osteopathic treatment could be the solution you’ve been waiting for.

Neck pain affects about one in 10 people, a common result of modern life, including sitting at computers, watching TV for long periods, and poor posture like forward head posture.

Neck problems can manifest as headaches, shoulder pain, jaw pain, hand tingling, carpal tunnel syndrome, and pain in the upper back.

We advise contacting us for a comprehensive assessment with one of our osteopaths if you regularly deal with any of the following. :

  • persistent neck ache first thing in the morning
  • neck stiffness when reversing the car
  • clicking neck noises when turning
  • constantly aching neck muscles
  • tingling in your hands or fingers

Causes

Neck pain is most commonly caused by poor posture. To understand its consequences, we must first explore why spinal alignment in the neck matters.

Your head weighs around 5 kg and is naturally balanced on your seven neck vertebrae. The muscles in your neck help maintain this position, but problems occur when we hold awkward postures for extended periods.

When this balance is disrupted, the nerves, muscles, joints, ligaments, and discs in your neck become strained and irritated. The tension in your neck and shoulders increases significantly for every 2-3 cm your head moves forward!

Neck strain and pressure gradually build, leading to pain, with even minor postural changes causing discomfort. Given the demands of modern living, it’s no surprise neck pain is widespread.

Other common causes of neck pain include whiplash, arthritis and sporting injuries.

  • a series of spinal mobilisations to restore proper movement to the neck vertebrae
  • neck exercises to encourage improved movement
  • neck strengthening exercises
